Did you know that two professional development certificate programs are available free of charge to employees across the entire University of California system?
Berkeley People & Culture’s People & Organization Development team offers the Berkeley People Management: Power Skills Series & Certificate and the Communication Deep Dive Certificate, giving UC managers, supervisors, and team leads an opportunity to strengthen essential leadership and communication skills.
One of the program’s strengths is its flexibility. Participants can take a single workshop, complete one certificate, pursue both certificates, or simply select the sessions most relevant to their current role. All workshops are conducted via Zoom and are available to any UC campus, health center, or laboratory. Workshops are offered twice each year and are provided at no cost to participants.
Why Power Skills Matter
Power skills, also known as soft skills, transferable skills, or human skills are non-technical, role-agnostic skills that help leaders navigate the complexities of higher education and support teams through change and growth.
People managers use power skills every day to help team members interact successfully, navigate change, and contribute to workplace success. These capabilities are foundational for creating inclusive environments, building strong teams, resolving conflict, and developing future leaders.
The Power Skills Series of workshops includes:
- Principles of People Management
- Creating an Inclusive Work Environment
- Communicating Goals & Key Results
- Employee Engagement
- Analyzing & Resolving Conflict
- Building Teams
- Delegation Skills
- Growing as a Coach
- Leading Change
Communication Deep Dive Certificate
Recognizing the critical role communication plays in effective leadership, this certificate includes two focused workshops designed to help participants communicate more effectively across a variety of workplace settings.
- Communicating with Impact
- How Communication Preferences Impact Team Success
