Hackers, Break-Ins, and 30 Certifications

Hooded hacker at a computer

Adrian Mohuczy-Dominiak’s journey into cybersecurity began far from the digital realm.

Growing up in Poland, Adrian experienced multiple home break-ins, sparking an early awareness of security and risk. That sense of vulnerability became a lifelong motivation to protect others—first physically, and later digitally.

Today, Adrian serves as Systemwide Cybersecurity Threat and Risk Manager at the University of California Office of the President, while also teaching at UCLA Extension to share his expertise with future cybersecurity professionals.

Inspired by the 1990s cult classic Hackers, Adrian pursued degrees in internet services technology and networking services technology, eventually earning a master’s in information systems and operations management. And, to stay ahead, Adrian has earned over 30 professional certifications, ensuring his knowledge remains current and his students gain insights from the cutting edge of the industry.

In a recent Q&A with UCLA Extension, Adrian discussed his career journey, the evolution of cybersecurity and modern threats, and emerging risks like AI-driven deepfakes and sophisticated phishing scams.

What’s the main takeaway? Cybersecurity isn’t going away—it’s becoming more essential every day. Whether you’re an individual protecting your personal data or an organization safeguarding sensitive information, proactive measures and continuous learning are key.
