On August 19 and 20, 2025, the University of California will host its Cybersecurity Summit, themed “Building Resilient Communities.” The free virtual event will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm PT each day and is open to participants from the University of California, California State University, California community colleges and invited guests.

Building Resilient Communities
Centered on the theme “Building Resilient Communities,” this year’s summit explores the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital ethics and cyber risk—fostering collective defense strategies for higher education, public institutions and beyond.
The two-day event features thought-provoking keynote speakers, presentations, a panel and networking opportunities designed to highlight best practices, promote collaboration and explore emerging approaches to risk management across higher education and the public sector.

From AI-driven threats to data privacy checkups to the latest online scams, each session offers a unique and practical perspective on today’s cybersecurity challenges involving the human element.
Nandita Bery – Director of Cybersecurity, Equinix
Presentation: How is AI changing the human aspect of cybersecurity, for threats and defense?
Nandita Bery is the Director of Cybersecurity at Equinix, where she leads the Human Risk and Security Awareness program. She started her career as an electrical engineer for a military contractor before transitioning into software development in the finance and healthcare sectors. Over 15 years of developing custom applications gave her unique insight into software vulnerabilities and their potential exploitation. Since joining Equinix in 2020, Bery has built a comprehensive industry-leading Human Risk and Security Awareness function focused on empowering employees to recognize trending threats and utilize security best practices.
Jennie Kennedy – Chief Privacy and Data Protection Officer, University of Texas System
Presentation: Data Privacy Check Up
Jennie Kennedy is the Chief Privacy and Data Protection Officer for the University of Texas System. A licensed attorney and Certified Information Privacy Professional, she advises institutions on compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other privacy regulations. Kennedy co-chairs EDUCAUSE’s Chief Privacy Officer group and has extensive experience in both higher education and state government. She previously established the privacy program at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and held leadership roles in the Texas House of Representatives and the University of North Texas System. Her work centers on advancing privacy, transparency, and data ethics in public institutions.
Sunny Notani – Secret Service Agent, United States Secret Service
Presentation: Fighting the Worst Online Scams
Sunny Notani has served as a Special Agent (SA) for The United States Secret Service for 22 years. SA Notani began his career in the New York Field Office (NYFO), where he spent eight years specializing in financial institution fraud, electronic crimes, network intrusions and social engineering. SA Notani was then assigned to the Vice Presidential l Protection Detail (VPD) for six and half years. During his time on VPD, he conducted over 20 high-profile protection lead advances for the Vice President. Currently, SA Notani serves as a Supervisory Special Agent at the Secret Service’s Philadelphia Field Office. He manages the financial fraud division consisting of 15 Special Agents and is the Program Manager for the Philadelphia Electronic Crimes Task Force.
