The UC Cyber Security Summit was originally born out of the need to connect cyber security professionals across UC in order to discuss ideas and best practices, share information, and learn from each other. That collaborative and community spirit remains today.

2024 marks the 15th UC Cyber Security Summit. This year the event is being held on October 9th at UC Irvine and will once again feature inspiring speakers and informative sessions that spotlight technology and cybersecurity threats at UC and beyond.

The 2024 summit provides an opportunity for the UC community to create important connections, learn from fellow cybersecurity professionals, and have engaging conversations. These conversations ultimately make us all more informed, educated, and energized when it comes to everything from practical security tips to the latest information around the digital security terrain.

The Impact of Past Summits

Past summit attendees have included everyone from thought leaders across UC and other higher education entities to cybersecurity professionals; leaders in compliance, legal and procurement; as well as government security officials.

The first UC Cyber Security Summit was held at the UC San Diego campus in 2017 and included attendees from 17 UC locations and guests from California State University, the San Diego Law Enforcement Coordination Center, the City of San Diego, and the San Diego Office of Homeland Security.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, C3 quickly switched gears to deliver a virtual summit. Thanks to high engagement and satisfaction scores, the summit won the inaugural UC Tech Awards Program Golden Award for IT Security.

The summits were held virtually for the next two years. In April 2022, the virtual summit was hugely popular, with over 600 attendees. Ninety-seven percent of 2022 summit participants said that they would recommend the summit to a colleague.

“Every year gets better and better. Thank you kindly for a worthwhile and productive summit that looked at security as a lifestyle and paid attention to the humans being affected.”

Back as an in-person event, the 2023 summit was held at the UCLA Carnesale Commons. Almost 200 attendees gathered to discuss technology, industry insights, and cybersecurity best practices. The speaker list included representatives from Amazon, UC, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Justice (DOJ). Summit 2024: Vigilance & Resilience

This year, on October 9th, we will be gathering in the Pacific Ballroom at the UCI Student Center. The 2024 summit will continue the conversations around cybersecurity, risk management, and how vigilance and resilience bring the human factor to the forefront in a technology-driven world. With fast-moving advancements around technology, AI, digital risk, and security, it is bound to be an exciting and relevant event filled with valuable insights from professionals and thought leaders across a myriad of industries.

The day-long event will feature entertainment and activities, multiple speakers, and ample time to network with others at the University of California, California State University, and California community colleges.

Please note that this year C3 is charging a nominal event fee to assist in covering the various expenses associated with organizing the summit. To stay true to the original intent of the summit, which is to host a relatively small event that promotes networking, they are introducing this registration fee to help offset the many costs it requires to put this very worthwhile conference together. Understanding this is a departure from previous years, it’s necessary to continue to provide a high-value event for our UC community. Learn more about the registration fee here: UC Cyber Security Summit website About page.
