By Duong Mai. In the last year, the UC Tech community has had many notable accomplishments, making extraordinary advances across all UC campuses.
In the year ahead, we seek to grow the UC Tech community of 9,755 members with more opportunities to gain experience, cultivate a network of engaged readers, and expand representation. The general themes we will focus on are technology, diversity, and business with blog posts highlighting stories, events, news and resources from members across locations, experience levels and interest groups. Whether you like to read up on the latest technology news regarding accessibility, cybersecurity, user experience, and AI or management topics such as leadership, project management, data analytics, and finance, there will be a wide range of informative and exciting content to look forward to in 2023.
The UC IT Blog will be leading each month for the next year by embracing a unique diversity theme. Here is the breakdown month by month highlighting what the UC IT Blog and newsletter have in store:
January
We kicked off the year by researching trending topics like ChatGPT and engaging in insightful conversations with people in the UC Tech community. In an interview with James Seddon, the Enterprise Network Operations Manager of Information Technology Services at UC San Diego, we discussed what inspires him and how his military background helped shape his work. With events like The University of California User Experience (UCUX) Usability Workshop and National Data Privacy Week, there have been plenty of opportunities to learn more.
February
February is Black History Month. The Council of UC Staff Assemblies is hosting a Black Staff Leadership Panel on February 1st. There will also be many technology-related events and articles coming out regarding EdTech, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and IT Policy & Security. We are also planning to cover the topic of customer service and what drives success in this important management topic.
March
March is Women’s History Month, and we will spotlight Women in Tech from each UC campus. Technology and business management topics that will be explored include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and Project Management. Earth Hour opens the critical topic of sustainability and the role of tech leaders in supporting the environmental implications of our decisions. We hope to see you at Process Palooza, a signature UC tech community event, March 28-29, 2023 at UC San Diego.
April
When was the worldwide web created? April 1993 (30 years ago this month)! In April, there will be information on Data and Analytics, and we will continue the conversation regarding sustainability as Earth Week unfolds. Listening organizations will inspire our business conversations this month. It is also Diversity Month, a great time to look at this important topic with renewed drive for positive change. We hope to see you at a signature UC Tech community event, Cyber Secururity Summit on April 19, 2023 at UCLA.

The month we are all waiting for! Join us July 17 – July 19 at UC Berkeley for this year’s UC Tech Conference. This represents the largest UC tech community event of the year, with nearly 800 participants in 2022. We will continue to post updates and communicate through our UC Tech Ambassadors at each campus location along with sharing announcements on the UC IT Blog and UC Tech Slack channel. The last Friday in July is also National System Administrator Appreciation Day. Time to spread-the-word about the backbone of digital excellence.
