UC Tech Academy: Digital Risk Leadership Program

The UC Tech Digital Risk Leadership Program strengthens the university’s digital defense by providing advanced leadership training for senior UC professionals in disciplines that collaborate on digital and cyber risk, including security, privacy, legal, audit, law enforcement, risk, compliance and public safety. This program is part of the UC Tech Academy, described below.

  • Target audience and nomination process: A UC-wide network whose work intersects with digital risk, cybersecurity, privacy, legal, audit, law enforcement, compliance and public safety, all of whom are nominated by their chief information officers each year, though self-nominations are accepted, and require manager and unit commitment of funding for tuition, travel and lodging expenses. 
  • Timing: The program occurs approximately every 18 months and consists of two, three-day sessions (for a total of six days), occurring several months apart.

Program details

Target audience and nomination process 

UC Community members specializing in digital risk, cybersecurity, privacy, legal, audit, law enforcement, compliance or public safety. The process for candidate nomination is managed locally by each CIO Council representative. In addition, people may self-nominate, in which case they must verify that their department approves all costs, including tuition, as well as travel and lodging, as needed. 

Program learning objectives 

Participants will learn current and emerging digital risk issues, leadership skills including negotiation, conflict resolution, communications and strategic planning and change management techniques. 

Program format and location

Digital Risk Leadership program in 2024 took place in person at UC Berkeley over the course of six days, divided into two, three-day modules. The format includes interactive sessions and in-depth presentations. Courses are taught by faculty from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, UC leadership, and other experts from industry and the public sector.
