Nominations Now Accepted for UC IT Leadership Academy

The third annual UC IT Leadership Academy – taught by UC Berkeley Haas School of Business faculty – is now open for nominations. Participants learn real-world skills like negotiation and conflict resolution, setting strategic priorities, time management, and culture change. And they develop connections with rising leaders from across UC IT who will become their peer advisors, collaborators, and co-pilots for driving change.

The experience

Molly Greek, senior manager for Enterprise Applications at UC Davis Health, participated in the program last year. She said, “The program was the most influential “training” experience I have participated in in my career.  And this is coming from someone who has participated in a lot of training and development opportunities over the years at a variety of organizations.  Here’s just a sample of three big changes in me: significantly increased collaboration with other UC IT leaders, a greater understanding of how I can contribute to the overall UC mission, and changing my leadership focus to the right meetings/efforts.”

Her co-participant from campus, Jeremy Phillips, director of Information Technology for the Division of Social Sciences at UC Davis, said, “With Haas faculty as instructors, the program was essentially a mini MBA with a focus on the skills I employ every day in my work, including leadership, innovation, and marketing. But perhaps the greatest value from the program has been the ongoing relationships that I forged with colleagues from across the UC system: I now have a network of people who I can (and do!) turn to for expertise, examples, and support.”

Dates and other details

The program consists of two three-day sessions, several months apart. CIOs identify up to two individuals from their locations who have demonstrated a passion for leadership. A few slots are available for individuals to self nominate by completing the nomination form. Dates for the upcoming program are December 13, 14, and 15 in 2017 and April 3, 4, and 5 in 2018.
